This will be our best Nutrisystem review ever, but we feel this weight loss service still has a long way to go to be considered a solution for senior weight loss and family caregivers tasked with the challenge of helping a loved one lose weight. First, we only purchased the frozen meals. The idea of having a cupcake, donut, or snack bar as a meal does not appeal to us. Seniors that need to lose weight will be successful with healthy balanced meals, something Nutrisystem does not offer.

Second, we should note that these meals cost between $3 and $4. HMR Entree is another weight loss service that competes in the same price range, but you have to add your own vegetables to create nutritionally balanced meals.

Nutrisystem does not have chefs or make any of their meals. They simply source existing premade food and add their own labeling. For the most part, you can get the same food from a Costco-type buyers club, or your local supermarket. The food is not “healthy” as it is packed with sodium and preservatives. It qualifies as diet food because the portion sizes are so small. You can eat lard in small portions and lose weight. BistroMD would be a weight loss service that offers balanced weight loss meals, but they average about $10 a meal.

This is a marketing company, and they do a great job at creating the illusion of easy weight loss. When out test order came in, my wife and two daughters flocked to the box like it had the magical power of instant weight loss. As they stare mesmerized by the bright gleam of light (which I can’t see), they shrug off any of my attempts to explain healthy eating by way of proper nutrition. All they know is if they eat it, and just that, they will lose weight, and personal sacrifice is part of pain and agony associated with dieting.

That scenario doesn’t work for family caretakers who are hoping to get their loved one to drop to a healthier weight. Over a third of seniors and elderly are obese, and most are subject to diabetic, low sodium, or some other form of nutritional meal planning. Plus, most seniors enjoy eating, and it is one of the pleasures of the day. Seniors need a proper weight loss meals without agony, pain, and sacrifice.

Overall, we felt the frozen meals we purchased are the best attempt by the company so far to provide their customers a real weight loss solution.
